The good news is that we didn't have to ride out a hurricane or tropical storm in our RV. Likely if either Bret or Cindy had hit hurricane force and been close to St Croix we would have moved to a shelter and hoped. RVs seem able to survive tropical storms. We are glad that things seem to not have been terrible overall for the Caribbean but would have loved to get some rain out of the two storms. Maybe we'll catch the tail end of Cindy and get a few showers that land more than 0.02" of rain.
I guess the fun part is we learned how to put everything back in to our container and look for things that might blow away. What's living if you're not packing all your stuff up every few months?
Our shed is progressing well, with the minor interference from prepping other stuff for high winds that luckily never happened.
This shed is giving us confidence that we can do an earthbag house. It won't be as eco-friendly as other houses of the style since we'll likely need to use more concrete than we'd hope due to the seismic zone. we also don't have clay but we have a good source of road base, which should compact well and I believe we can cement-stabilize it (per a P.E. of course) so that should give us nice, 16" thick walls. I estimate we'll be moving over 70 tons of the stuff so if anyone wants to lift weights just drop us a line and we'll buy pizza. Grin.
